Historic Old Town Florence
|
Historic Old Town Florence is one of the most beautiful and charming of the Oregon coast cities. Located on the waterfront below Highway 101's Siuslaw River Bridge, this un-crowded district is the perfect place to spend time exploring art galleries, antique stores, gift and specialty shops, wine tasting and restaurants serving regional foods and wines.
Old Town features activities that can be enjoyed by the whole family. Wander along the Siuslaw River while enjoying ice cream or espresso and watch artisans at work. Take a river cruise on an old fashioned sternwheeler and see the sand dunes, lush forests, river wildlife and a cormorant rookery (text from Historic Old Town Web site).

Local National and State Parks
|
- Siuslaw National Forest: The Siuslaw National Forest is a very diverse
and productive region extending from Tillamook to Coos Bay along the Oregon coast. The forest encompasses over 630,000 acres of unique and varying ecosystems. The Forest is situated within the Oregon Coast Range, a mountain range that runs north to south from the Columbia River to north central California. The Siuslaw National Forest is bordered on the east by the Willamette Valley and the west by the Pacific Ocean and is one of only two national forests located in the lower 48 states to claim oceanfront property. Marys Peak, the highest peak in the Coast Range at elevation 4,097, is a prominent view west of Corvallis (text from their Website).
- Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park: Situated half way up the Oregon coast and three miles south of Florence on scenic Highway 101, Jessie M. Honeyman Memorial State Park is the second largest overnight camp in the state. There are two miles of sand dunes between the park and the ocean. Two natural freshwater lakes are within the park. Cleawox—which is great for swimming—and Woahink, which has a public boat ramp, is used for all water sports. Rent a canoe and explore the lake. (text from their Website).
